Salt Therapy Rooms: What Buyers Should Know
Salt rooms — halotherapy rooms — have grown from a spa curiosity into a standard
add-on for gyms, clinics and wellness centres. If you are quoting or building
one, here is what actually goes into it.
The materials

The two are often confused, so it is worth being blunt: **the walls are the
experience, the halogenerator is the therapy.** Wall and floor salt create the
environment, atmosphere and light. The dry aerosol that halotherapy protocols
actually refer to comes from the generator.
Humidity is the whole game
A salt room must stay dry — target 40–55% RH. Too humid and the walls weep,
the floor cakes and the room needs rebuilding far sooner than budgeted. Specify:
- Dedicated dehumidification, sized for occupancy
- Ventilation between sessions
- No steam, no wet flooring, no adjoining shower without a sealed door
Build notes
- Mechanically frame heavy wall sections; adhesive alone will creep over time —

- Use warm-white LED at 2700–3000 K behind tiles, with a ventilated cavity.
- Keep electrical fittings out of the salt envelope wherever possible; salt plus
moisture corrodes contacts.
- Plan for floor salt replacement every 12–24 months in a busy room. Budget
it as a consumable, not a one-off.
Claims
Halotherapy is popular, and the evidence base is mixed and mostly focused on
respiratory comfort. Regulators in several markets have acted against clinics
promising medical outcomes. Market the room as a **relaxation and wellness
environment**, keep any health language conservative and verifiable, and check
your local advertising rules before signing off the brochure.
